The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI started watching Hell on Wheels last summer.....
It's back for it's second year on AMC.
I really like this show because it's a western that looks like a real western They have taken great care to show us how barbaric, dirty, grungy and down right nasty the old west must have really been.
It's got it's fair share of naked capitalism and all sorts of racism that is portrayed in bo way heroic.
The black man was just as self centered and conniving as the white and red men in this show.
Oh it's got a strong woman who killed the Indian that killed her husband. She fits right in with the rest of them
There are whores and squaws and all sorts of the peripheral characters we have come to expect in a good western.
It shows us how far we have come from that era in cleanliness but the godlessness is still pretty much the same.
Watch it, and if you can, see if you can catch the first season somewhere it is well worth it....
There are a lot of good shows off network now. competition for eyeballs is fierce. AMC is building a reputation of quality and realistic dramas and that is good...

(53,410 posts)If you think about it these western shows that are very 'real' are quite Shakespearean. Deadwood was great in that way because they spoke their old timey version of English.
