Pronunciation - not what I grew up with

Last edited Tue Nov 29, 2022, 11:48 AM - Edit history (1)

From YouTube with all those Brit narrators.

* All my 75 years, I only knew: TY-gris (Euphrates). Now YouTube Brit says: TIGG-ris.

* Right now, Cyrano de Bergerac, I only knew SIRR-a-no: The Brit just said, sirr-RA-no.

... entirely because I'll never understand the people.

Jeremy Clarkson is from the UK, and he struggled with it:

Edit: Reminds me of some people that I've encountered in the Southern USA, but that kind of "mumbling" is very unusual there too.

Oh why can't the English? (Why can't the English?)

Cleaned up the spelling a bit by getting rid of the unnecessary "u" in several words. Established more consistent pronunciation patterns regarding which syllable gets accented. And we pronounce whole words instead of dropping syllables. Got rid of certain titles by eliminating the positions, like "duke," "duchess," "king," "queen," etc.
