I hope they put an orange vest on him during hunting season. That always worries me about rescued deer.

(22,513 posts)deer that come to our yard. They help themselves to the birdseed we put out for the birds. One older doe seems to come back for a few years now and isnt to scared of us. The rest of them are skittish around us. Sometimes there are six or eight that come to the yard. Normally there is around four. They are definitely interesting to watch.

(128,941 posts)20 years ago, while they were with the moving truck, I was at the house waiting for a furniture delivery and while out on their back deck, the first creature I saw was a deer. And it was having a "conversation" with a feral calico cat.
Apparently the row of houses on her side of the street are along a deer run and their path cuts along the side of her house and down to a creek at the bottom of the hill in her backyard. There's literally a good-sized herd in her neighborhood so you might see upwards of 6 - 8 congregating in the front yards of houses across the street from her and then they will start roaming back to her side of the street so they can cut through her yard.
Of course that also means many of her landscape plants become an annual deer feast (hostas, daylilies, roses, etc). So needless to say....

(511 posts)but we have a lot of hunters, too. I worry about the deer getting too used to people and being more likely to get shot, so I dont try to feed them or get close to them.
