(115,686 posts)as much as the size of the electricity bill. He'd follow us around turning off lights - and then there was "We're not trying to heat the outdoors, close the damn door!"

(2,945 posts)grew up in the era where you were told to turn off the lights when you left a room. The other day, out of curiosity, I googled whether this was still true with LED lights. The response was that turning on and off LED lights actually shortens their life span compared with other bulbs. So we either leave lights on (and use electricity when we don't need to) or the garbage heaps will be fuller if we turn LED lights on and off because they have to be replaced more often.
