Do they still make disappearing headlights?

I saw a couple cars yesterday that had those, and was wondering if anyone makes any cars with disappearing headlights anymore.

There was one car, (I can't remember which one,) had the headlights rotate into use, like a James Bond car.
Those were cool.

11. Pretty much every one I saw as a kid had busted mechanisms.

You could slap them and they would spin right over.

I had the ones on our 68 Cougar tuned up pretty well. The covers would snap up with a clunk. They just didn't sit perfectly straight when closed.

2. Apparently, they have found ways to make them more annoying.

Those bluish H.I.D. headlights are like daggers in the eyes. I fucking hate those things!

5. They're evil. The owners think they make the cars look "European" - it makes them look like assholes

They hurt my eyes, too. I haven't done a scientific study but one out of ten of my friends/acquaintances say it hurts their eyes as well. They are annoying.

14. They have a wider spread than regular bulbs. Some say that's good, however,...

... I say it just makes them look like the high beam switch is broken and stuck in the "on" position.

4. Not that I know of. That was really a late 60's to early 80's thing. Now it's all plastic.

Oh, and those fucking plastic things cost $800 for a pair!!! I know because I got stuck with having to get a new set to get through inspection.

Bought it for $100 from a guy who was cashin' out and leavin' town.
Put about $500 into getting all the systems working again.
Power windows, seat, radio, tape deck (!), etc.
And the eye lids.
Vacuum operated.
It was a BOAT!
Even put a sunroof in.
Loved that car.

15. I prefer the term "land yacht". I took my driver's test in a 76 LeMans - definitely a yacht.

(a) Too high a failure rate, too expensive to fix. I remember seeing a lot of Thunderbirds with one open, one closed.

(b) Cause poor aerodynamics when the "pop-up".

When Chevy quit putting them on the Corvette, I saw that as the death knell of "pop-ups".

I had an early 90's Nissan 240sx that had them. Ten years or so and never had a problem with them. I've seen plenty of cars with the one open, one closed though.

My son, who just turned 18 & is off to college, loved pop up headlights when he was a little boy. Not little anymore, but still my baby.
