(15,241 posts)It's interesting how over the 15+(?) years I've been here, I recognize certain posters and just say "this is something I want to read." Your posts are part of these.
I learn so much from everyone and hope, in some small percentage, to add to the conversations.
Sometimes, maybe a bit later in the evening, I may just respond to vent.
Anyhoo - A great place to have some good conversations!

(86,536 posts)That's my approach, I learn a lot here and appreciate 95% of the conversation, even things I disagree with because I have to consider the opposing points.
I hope that when I say something that it's interesting at the very least, informative at best.

Merriam-Webster dictionary is using Rep. Barbara Lee's words to explain what 'woke' means
September 14, 2017 Tron Nick; brownwatch.squarespace.com
woke
1 of 2
adjective
ˈwōk
woker; wokest
Synonyms of woke
chiefly US slang
1
: aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)
But we will only succeed if we reject the growing pressure to retreat into cynicism and hopelessness. We have a moral obligation to "stay woke," take a stand and be active; challenging injustices and racism in our communities and fighting hatred and discrimination wherever it rises.

(51 posts)Wokeness is a synonym for empathy.

(15,241 posts)I'm wondering if the psychological studies that show conservatives in general are lacking in empathy might have some bearing on their dislike of those that do.
This seems almost a more physiological/neurological problem than a political one. It's been said that the lack of the mirror empathy that normal beings (humans and other species) have that this leads to estrangement, inability to relate to others that are "different".

(7,412 posts)Knowledgeable and Educated kind of overlap, and this important trait isn't really captured.

(86,536 posts)Adjust it to your liking. I was just getting us off to a starting point for better ideas!
I do like the suggestion.

(7,627 posts)Most people think it's a real good idea to be "woke".
What's the alternative, being asleep, unaware?? How is that a good idea? Does the GOP wants us to be unaware?
YES! They do friend, so they can rob you blind.

Seriously, though, if you can come up with other fitting words, by all means use them!
And share!

Very nicely done.
