(13,250 posts)As kids, we loved it. There was an event called May Day (this was in Canada) that involved a parade and celebration that included performances and Maypole dancing. Lots of fun, food, and crepe paper adorning parade floats and kids' bicycles. It was our unofficial and optimistic start to the summer season.

(15,551 posts)I am very pagan, and so I love the weaving of the energies, both in and out, up and down... such a powerful dance! To think that this is thousands of years old is so very amazing....

(26,916 posts)I thought it was going to just be a bunch of kids running around a pole, but it was a wonderfully choregraphed production!
It took a lot of work and practice to get all the critical steps and timing down right and the kids pulled it off.
Even the small instrumental group did a wonderful job. I originally thought it was recorded music.
Think 2 of the teachers were among the group The women in the long white dress and the woman with the dark glasses.

(23,248 posts)We didnt know the reason for May Day but when I got active in my Union, I learned it was to commemorate the workers and the labor movement. Now, we do that with Labor Day and still, some dont know the history of Labor. So..Happy May Day! Enjoy the beauty of Spring 🌺 as was done for thousands of years!
