It's not difficult, except sometimes reaching over your head to bend the spike over and finding the angle to not be blinded by the sun. The real problem is that there are new seed pods to snap off and/or spent stalks to prune off entirely. Daily.

How To Deadhead Cannas And Why You Should!
.... What Is Deadheading?
Deadheading is the process of removing spent flowers to encourage the plants to produce additional blooms. ....
However, the primary purpose of blooming is for the plant to propagate.
....
Once the seed has been produced, the plant stops putting energy into producing more blooms. ....
The main goal of deadheading Canna plants is to stop the seed from setting as the plant uses all its energy to produce seeds.

(10,838 posts)1. Beautiful cannas!
I have some in my bog garden, but they aren't that big.
However, I do have some rhodies that are over 25 feet tall and they are in serious need of a dead heading soon. That will be a big mess to get to.

Our cannas were fire-truck red so they stood out during the spring and summer.
