Creepy FB use of email address...

I just deleted my FB account and don't know if I'll go back again.
There are profiles on the side : "People you may know"
I don't have common friends with them.

They were men that I communicated with using my private email after they contacted me on two different dating sites. We only exchanged a few emails...This was about one-two years ago, and I only joined FB last fall.

I don't know what to think...but it creeps me out.
FB connects email addresses from dating sites and matches them.
I think that they do much more than that....
If there's contact with a person via email...they end up on the sidebar.

Has anyone else had such an experience ...?

Thank you in advance...

peace~

I really don't care for that entity at all. and they switched mine against my will to that stupid timeline. I certainly don't get much out of it. sometimes it is fun to "like" something or go to a page somebody else talks about but...for the most part I have no real positives to say about it.

I just went back...
oh well ....
Some people I know in real life creep me out more.... so I guess it's okay.
My real name is all over the internet anyway... but not there. Just my first name....

Well that was a major decision!

Mostly to be able to see pics of relatives and friends and their kids and grandkids.

On my profile I entered only the required info, volunteering no more. Some like to enter their birthdate in order to receive salutations from their friends, but I didn't even enter that.

Facebook also gives me Occupy alerts and updates on protests and events in my area, as each event usually has its own FB page. For me, that is especially useful.

It also keeps me in touch with some great high school kids with whom I've had the privilege of working in the past who are now in college.

I just ignore all the crap on the righthand side. There's a snowball's chance in hell that I'll click on 'Christian Mingle' to find "God's choice" for me, lol.

At this point, I don't find it nefarious that FB picks up and displays your our my connections. We're still free to ignore the crap they display, so it really has no consequence.

But I have to say that that new timeline thing really sucks.

Despite my lighthearted remarks, I do hear where you're coming from. I don't think FB poses a danger in revealing your personal information beyond what you've volunteered. But the only thing that really counts is what YOU feel comfortable with.

The main thing is that YOU'RE the decider, YOU'RE the one in control.

Love you, Dystopian--always.

Peace,
pinboy3niner

The loss of privacy in this day and age. It's just getting crazy. Especially when good people can get intimidated with very little cause and dishonest people are never ashamed, no matter what they do.
