Exclusive: Gen AI music app Suno comes out of stealth

Suno, a venture-backed AI music company, has come out of stealth with the aim of helping anyone write and create songs as easily as taking photos on a phone.
Why it matters: The race to build consumer AI audio products and platforms is accelerating.
Microsoft announced Tuesday that it has integrated Suno into its AI software platform Copilot.
Facebook and Google have released AI tools that can generate songs and sounds.
Zoom in: Unlike many AI music apps, Suno (pronounced soon-oh and means "listen" in Hindi) is focused on creating original tunes with original vocals not on cloning or mimicking popular artists' voices or songs.

Just for giggles, I told Suno AI application to compose and perform a few songs for me, all from scratch.
Shattered Dreams, a rock song about young male heartbreak
Shattered Dreams, same as above but different
Shattered Dreams, rock song about young female heartbreak
Shattered Dreams, female singer, slightly different
Obviously AI song composing and performing is in its infancy but this is just magical to me. I really hope it never poses a serious threat to human composers and performers.
If you want to play with it too, just go to https://suno.ai

(51,454 posts)2. Yes, it is a threat to human artists. It being "just for giggles" for people playing with it - especially
when it's offered for free - is meant to get people used to it and even hooked on it asap so they'll pay for it, or better versions of it, very soon. All of these AI companies are planning to make money - a lot of it - as well as harvest a lot of data that can be used for training AI and/or sold to third parties.
And not only will it threaten professional artists' livelihoods - it will discourage aspiring artists from developing their own talent, which takes time and commitment.
It's a different way of dumbing people down. But it is a way to dumb them down while giving them the illusion of creativity.
The very first sentences of the Suno website are pure BS:
Suno is building a future where anyone can make great music. Whether you're a shower singer or a charting artist, we break barriers between you and the song you dream of making. No instrument needed, just imagination. From your mind to music.
The truth is that the user of their AI is creating NOTHING. The AI is creating it. The user just has options of what to use from what the AI creates. As with image generators.
Telling people they're being creative doing this is fraud. Clever marketing, since it flatters users, but it's fraud.
No one becomes an artist or a writer having AI do the work for them. Any more than a toddler asking a parent to "tell me a story about a dog that looks like our dog" created whatever story their parent comes up with.
Creating good art of any type, like writing well, requires past practice (commitment) and WORK.
Those peddling generative AI are telling people none of that is necessary.
