Is it my imagination, or is Youtube a poor platform for debate? I just started getting involved with entertainment issues on an international level and I found it to be super inconsistent. Although I don't find anything extreme about what I write, my posts sometimes disappear, and might reappear later, or not. And the same with "likes." It seems to be a very unstable platform.

(14,764 posts)It's intended for content providers to produce and distribute content.
People are encouraged to interact with the content with comments, but debate is not it's intended purpose, and is often quashed.
I'm not sure if there is a good video based debate site. It's not tik tok.

(46,727 posts)It is a great way to keep up with international affairs, and lends itself to an exchange of ideas.
But, also, very hard to continue a conversation because posts tend to disappear.

(9,373 posts)I've done YouTube content and although there's discussion, you have a lot of content by people who really don't have that much to say. Unless you have some well=known names attached to the content, I really don't think there's anything worthwhile.

(7,625 posts)I'm a subscriber to Judy Norton's channel and there's nothing but appreciation, love and positive affirmations in the comment section.
Judy is so beautiful on the outside and inside that she generally responds to everyone with gratitude.

(24,300 posts)I have never set up an account there and I mainly use it to listen to music. It's also good for DIY things. I have made several repairs on my cars by watching videos there. I never considered using it to debate people. And since I don't have an account there, I can't even comment. I do read the comments sometimes.

And we only have the basic You Tube that comes free on the ROKU.
You can always find something cool on You Tube
A few shows broadcast live, and you can comment there. The one I watch the most is Weekly Skews with Trae Crowder and Smart Mark.

(46,727 posts)It does have its downside, however. All social media does. For example, social media has the potential to be poisonous to its celebrities in Korea. It's a topic that I try to bring up on their forums, but I find my posts disappearing. It's odd, especially when the Youtube video talks about that very topic.

There's quite a few YouTube channels that I subscribe to that aren't political but are downright fun, entertaining and informative.
If I happen to come across YouTube comments that are inappropriate or inaccurate, I simply move on. I don't spend time or energy dealing with nincompoops.

(38,317 posts)That's one of the reasons I won't suffer cable, satellite, or broadcast television.
I actively avoid talking-head political commentary on YouTube, even those videos posted here on DU. I think YouTube's algorithms have noticed that.
For $140 annually you can make YouTube advertising go away. YouTube is currently among the zero-advertising streaming services my wife and I subscribe to. Over the years Netflix has been the streaming service we most consistently subscribe to. When we get bored with a streaming service we drop it. We don't subscribe to any services that have advertising.
If I saw too much political stuff on YouTube I'd probably walk away. You can count me among those who appreciate the apolitical face YouTube presents me.
