Bifocals? Bifocals!

Yup, at 47, it happened, had to get bifocals.

Honestly, I was really afraid they would be terrible. My prescription is very strong, so glasses are VERY important to me.

I was afraid they would really mess up my field of vision. But I got the seamless no line bifocals, and honestly I hardly notice any significant different from "regular" lenses.

Just picked them up last night, so it will be a little adjustment period, but nothing major. They told me not to drive with them on for a few days until I get used to them.

I've had trifocals for a couple years now, a few months ago I had to get stronger ones.

I've lost about 20% of my hearing, need trifocals, had bypass surgery, dang it, I'm getting old!

'specially the no-lines pair I had. Almost killed myself walking down stairs a few times because the focus and perspective was all screwed up and I couldn't tell where my feet were going. Now, I just take my glasses off to read, just like I always did.

But, most people seem to get used to them reasonably well, and they are convenient.

(Truth is, contacts and a huge collection of dollar store readers worked best, but I can't wear the contacts any more.)

5. I'm on my second pair and I'm only 49. I get the lined ones to keep me straight.

I lost my computer glasses (actually, the kittens stole them) and I'm actually using my old glass-lens pair because my prescription has changed enough that they actually work really well for the screen distances now, not so much for distance. I can still read really tiny print with no glasses. My ultra-close vision has always been excellent.

It was a real shock when I had to get my first pair of bifocals (at around 40) because I always thought of that as the "old person" thing. Then again, I've got severe osteoporosis, need a cane, and have a service dog. I've started yelling "GET OFF MY LAWN!" just for fun (not kidding).

On a side note, my usual line is "SLOW DOWN (pause) AND STAY OFF MY LAWN!" I was out in the garden with my wife last evening and a car raced through the neighborhood. One of the 4th or 5th grade kids across the street yelled "SLOW DOWN!" in exactly the same voice I use. We both lost it.

Granted, my prescription isn't really strong for the far away stuff, but it's strong enough that it made a pretty good improvement. I went in originally to get reading glasses.

I can't remember how old I was though. I did get them eventually, but I have that problem of not being able to see well on stairs, too.

I avoid escalators when I can!
