I’ll eat it if nothing else is available, however. I’ll have to skip this particular food holiday because we’re having Reubens tonight with leftover corned beef from St. Paddy’s Day.

Don’t get me wrong. I’ll eat one, but not a fan of a soggy bun.
They are too runny tomato-y for my taste.

extraordinarily popular. The burgers were loose scrambled hamburger, seasoned very nicely , with pickles and mustard on the bun. You could get them with cheese. Mind you these were not all soupy with tomatoe sauce, so they didn't drip but you could lose a bit of burger here and there if you weren't careful.

Anyway, the little baggies the burgers came in had a map of Kentucky with an arrow pointing up to Nebraska where there were several other Tastee Treat locations. I would love to know if they are still around, and I would be thrilled if I could find one that served those sandwiches and the best soft serve ice cream I have ever tasted.

The place eventually closed, which made us all sad. We never knew for sure how one of their shops ended up in rural Kentucky. My guess is a soldier stationed at Ft Campbell liked the area and decided to stay and open a family franchise. Or something similar.

This can be an ultimate sandwich.

Mince some onion, celery, garlic and a small jalapeño pepper and saute the lot in olive oil. And tomato sauce and paste to get a stew-like consistency. Then add good clean ground beef. Spice it all with cumin, salt, black pepper, hot sauce and a shot of Worcestershire sauce.

Toast the burger buns, slobber the meat on the buns. Top with a slice of cheddar cheese.

Delicious and easy peasant food.
