I used to do a lot of overnight work with commands that would take hours to complete. On terminals, CTRL-G made a beep, so I'd put in the command followed by a string of CTRL-Gs and when the operation was complete I had a built in alarm to wake me up. Sometimes beer was involved.

I still had to attend our weekly meetings, which would drone on and on for hours... so naturally,
sooner or later I would nod off. Not only that, it was pretty much guaranteed that I would also
eventually start snoring. I really DID try to stay awake.
.
Kinda.
.
I never got into trouble over this. My manager sympathized with me about it being a complete
waste of everyone's time (including the company's) for me to be there. I found out after awhile
that there was even a weekly pool on how long it would take for me to start snoring... and my
manager was right in the pool with everyone else.

I worked graveyard shift with 5 other folks in a pretty cool inbound call center (with a wide
range of clients from Vanguard Mutual Funds to the Museum of Modern Art to Victoria Jackson
Makeup Kits to a really sleazy owner who sold mailorder cheapcheapcheap Korean-produced
seriously crappy and worthless stuff. We were outside of Philly and around 2 AM, when the
calls from the West Coast would dwindle to almost nothing, we were allowed to sleep.
.
We'd grab couches from the lobby and set up table/chair combinations for some pretty
surprisingly comfortable beds. As long as we could wake quickly if and when our phones
rang, we were golden. We'd tear down our makeshift beds around 5:30-6 AM... before the
day folks started coming in.
.
Once, the owners and some of the top management came in after having closed a local
bar. The back door had been unlocked -- as it always was -- but all 6 of us had been way
off somewhere in the Land of Nod, leaving the place wide open to all sorts of mayhem.
.
Even then, all they did was ask us to TRY to have one person stay awake.
.
We used to bring our putters in and set up miniature golf courses around the huge
open call center. This was a FUN FUN FUN company to work for.

Yah wake em up! They might lose their job if they get caught.

I almost fell asleep myself. I started pinching my skin, so far it works. I'm so freaking tired
