LOTS of talk about Led Zeppelin lately ....

And this is why > There is a new Zeppelin concert movie, which will be released in theaters this month on the 17th and 18th; Two nights only .... Then on Blue Ray/DVD release sometime in November.

This is the trailer ---V

This is the 2007 one-time-only concert held at the O2 Arena in London, in honor of and as a tribute to the President of Atlantic Records, Ahmet Ertegun ..... Fans who knew about the show tried to buy tickets; Some 20,000,000 of them .... This concert, their first show in 27 years, is considered by many to be amongst their best concerts; The first with a completely sober Jimmy Page .... the first with John Bonham's son Jason assuming a throne many hoped he would one day occupy ....

Because fans who attended the show were so blown away, and so disappointed that Plant refused to agree to a tour, many combined their own video clips together to create a patchwork version of the show .... Here ---V

Here is a press conference held to promote the film -----V

Enjoy ! ...

..and he was having too much fun with that.

As good as they sounded at O2, I figured they'd do a limited tour. Why not? They could probably have done 25 dates in the US and Europe, and between the tickets (which would have fetched top dollar) and PPV, they could have cleared (IMHO) cleared an easy billion dollars. The problem -- Plant doesn't need the money (none of them do, really).

For years, I've heard persistent, unsubstantiated whispering that Plant holds John Paul Jones responsible for Bonham's death. I wonder if there is any truth to that, and if that's why he's been reluctant to tour as a group (becaue, IYWR, he has toured with Jimmy Page).

and I'm not claiming to be an insider by any means but I have been on some LZ mailing lists since the early 90s and they often have info before anyone else.

Bonzo was Robert's friend. They played together before Zep and Robert suggested Bonham to Jimmy. His death messed Plant up and for a long time he didn't want anything to do with Zep. As he healed he incorporated more Zep into his shows and was more open to projects with Jimmy but he was also becoming a different person than the "Golden God" from the Hammer of the Gods.

The bottom line is now he doesn't want or need to be a rock star. He loves doing his country/folky things with Allison and his other projects like Priory of Brion, Strange Sensations, Band of Joy and, currently, Sensational Space Shifters.

He agreed to the O2 show because Ahmet Ertegun was a close friend and he wanted to honor his memory.

But I don't think I've ever heard that he blames Jonesy for Bonham's death. I think it would have been discussed ad nauseum had it been a legit theory.

I still believe that the "No Quarter" concert they did (aka: Page and Plant) is some of the best work I've heard. Their addition of a more Indian flavor was simply amazing.

John Paul Jones is completely under-rated. He may have been the most talented musician of the group.

IMHO
