I just watched the Movie Hesher...

It's a bizarre slice of life about a drifter stoner guy who comes smashing into the lives of a family that is already on the rim and about to fall into the volcano.

It reminded me so much of my early to late teens that I had to stop it more than a few times and get myself back to the present just to finish watching.

I had a friend that was just like Hesher, well, not quite as violent but just as volatile. All Id. We had a lot of laughs and more than a few dangerous moments. But when I needed him most he was there.

And then he was gone out of my life as we had suddenly realized we had chosen different paths for our adulthood. It was a violent drunken acid drenched night that ended up in an all out wrestling match in somebody's front yard deep in the bosom of suburbia. That was the last night I saw him. Our lives took completely different paths from then on.

Anyway, I just want to recommend Hesher. It was advertised as a comedy when it first came out but it is far from being a comedy. It's hard to watch but once you figure out where it is going and what is really going on, it changes the whole tone of the movie.

I kept wondering if this could really happen, that someone like Hesher could really insinuate themselves so easily into someone's family and home. That was the part that disturbed me more than anything. Not the thinking that it couldn't happen, but that it could.
