Turns out you can put bananas in the fridge

Fifty years on this planet and I'm only learning this now???

They won't ripen in the fridge so leave them out until they reach your desired level of ripeness and then pop 'em in the fridge before they turn over-ripe. Your margin of error here is about two hours in my experience. They will be fine in the fridge for up to a week or more. The peels will turn black but the fruit will be fine.

Since you're peeling and chunking them before you freeze them, it doesn't matter if you have to trim bruised spots. The first time we bought bananas for smoothies, my daughter ate all the frozen bananas before we could make the smoothies.

Most of them end up in smoothies or baking anyway, so riper is sweeter, softer, and wonderful. Who cares about the brown spots. Bananas don't last long in our house, and not because they go bad. The peels all go in the compost.

After freezing, pop one in your mouth and.....They are sooooooooo good. They take a while to soften and I swear the banana taste is intensified. Better than ice cream and better for you! Frozen grapes rock, too.

Okay, now I'm hungry.

I can identify the banana and apple. What's underneath -- pineapple? And what's the green stuff?
