(21,925 posts)My grandaddy from the south did a sales job on me that fresh sorghum was it. Sorghum I believe is made from a type of sweet grass. I haven't had it since I was about 12 and I don't now if I'd like it now. Presently I'm not too big on sweet spreads but peach preserves are okay.
Another sweet spread I ate a lot as a kid when I lived in France was chestnut paste. My grandmother from Corsica where chestnuts are really popular (they even make chestnut bread) used to feed me chestnut spread that you buy in cans. It's extremely sweet, so sugary that I don't think my adult palate could tolerate it anymore.
