Pic-spam of my horse for Kali

Who always liked my horse's butt. And for anyone else who likes ponies.

She's 7 now and has really filled out. We normally ride English but she's learning Western just for fun. I haven't been here in ages and this is mostly why.

She looks very healthy, and I love her color.

I can't ride to save my life, and so I really admire anyone who can...

You look great!

Nice to see a familiar face. She's my pride and joy, and the saver of what little sanity I have left.

Give her a kiss on that super-soft nose of hers...

I used to ride English for about a decade through high school and college. Haven't ridden in years and I really miss it. \

She's lovely.

It fits her.

I got her when she was 4. She was a racehorse-in-training but never had an official start. I don't know why but it wasn't injury - there wasn't a mark on her. I suspect she was just too emotionally immature for the life as she was quite baby-ish.

She's matured a lot and grown to be a really good riding horse with a lot of potential for more. I hope to eventually compete in low-level dressage just for the fun and the experience.

And thanks.

Even the same back socks, and very similar white marks on the face. My horse was a dark bay and would turn darker in summer and lighter in winter. He was a Quarterhorse/Morgan gelding.

A former racehorse who never raced. lol

Her great-great granddaddy was Seattle Slew who won the Triple Crown in 1978. Which sounds really cool but in all honesty, all track horses have really nice breeding since they are breeding for winners. Still, it's fun to see all the names I know in her pedigree even though I have no intention of ever breeding her.

the Thoroughbred breed evolved from native English horses crossed with Arabian & Turkoman horses, so you're not far off.

The big horn-y saddles evolved so cowboys could secure their ropes when they lassoed a cow. Side saddles are something else all together; few use them anymore.

English saddle with stirrups raised:

Western saddle:

Side-saddle saddle (weird looking thing with leg rest thingees):

You have to be balanced to stay on the horse, and you hold the reins in both hands (they usually use different bits in the bridles than the western riders). Western uses one-handed neck reining, and sometimes bad riders can yank on one side of the horse's head, causing them to open their mouths (like in Western movies ... makes me cringe). It must be painful for them. Poor horses.
