Stephen Colbert as a Hobbit? Mebbe.

Stephen Colbert Reportedly Set for The Hobbit Cameo Appearance

Stephen Colbert will reportedly make a cameo appearance in the upcoming Hobbit trilogy.

It’s not known whether the “Colbert Report” host will appear in the second or third film, nor has it been confirmed whether he has a speaking role.

His appearance will not come in the The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the first installment, which is hitting theaters in December.

The “Colbert Report” host, a longtime fan of author J.R.R. Tolkien and The Lord of the Rings, had hinted at the news in a new Playboy interview, confirming that director Peter Jackson had invited him to the epic franchise’s set in New Zealand last year.

1. I thought "The Hobbit" was only going to be a two-parter.

I can't imagine how one can get tired of those panoramic settings, but it could happen.

3. Still, I thought they only split "The Hobbit" in half. The LOTR was an obvious trilogy.

I've read both books (and the Silmarillion for that matter) more times than I can remember. New Zealand is a perfect setting for Middle Earth.

5. It so fits the description of Middle Earth as depicted by Tolkein. I'm glad they chose it.

On the other hand, Appalachia would have served just as well EXCEPT for the mountain-top strip mining. That sort of fucks up the scenery.
