Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSomething to ponder----On Gilligan's Island, it was supposed to be a three hour tour, Why did some. characters have
all that stuff with them for a 3 hour tour. Mr, Howel even has his Teddy Bear and outfits. As did Mrs. Howel. Mary Ann making coconut pies. The only character that stayed dressed the same was the Skipper, Gilligan and the Professor. Oh, where the heck to the Professor get his degree? Trump University? He couldn't even fix a short wave radio. Thank you . And don't get me started on Ginger and the gowns.

Or maybe its just a stooopid plot line that doesnt need to connect to reality.
And i was definately a mary ann guy. Ginger just didnt do anything for me.

(17,758 posts)Back in the dusty oldie days, airports weren't large or crowded, especially in HI. No security, and plenty of baggage handlers, especially for first class passengers.
You could easily arrive 30 minutes early and no be late.

(4,490 posts)With each character representing one of the Seven Deadly Sins.
Gilligan - Sloth
Skipper - Wrath
Ginger - Lust
MaryAnn - Gluttony
Mr Howell - Greed
Lovey - Envy
Professor - Pride
Each of these character traits will trap you in your own personal Purgatory whatever that is. The place you cannot seem to escape mentally or physically no matter how hard you try. Social media, toxic relationships, unfulfilling jobs, anything really where you feel trapped.
Until you can overcome them all, you too will find yourself every morning waking up on "Gilligan's Island."

(10,615 posts)... all kinds of people washed up on Gilligan's Island. So, all their belongings and whatever other stuff could also appear. Note that Star Trek went "Where no man has gone before!" - but there were guest stars every week! Lost in Space was likewise crowded - who knew space was so overpopulated, especially with many of Dr. Smith's long-lost relatives?

(45,756 posts)thing. Ginger was a singer for a mob boss, Mary Ann was running away from a boyfriend she did not want to marry. Professor was avoiding arrest for claiming he had a PhD in science from USC, when in fact, he had a diploma from Trump University, The Howell's has embezzed money from his company and needed to get out of town fast. The wreck of the Minnow was a planned escape for all.

(3,633 posts)is the idea that a very wealthy socialite couple and a Hollywood movie star would be on the same chartered boat tour with a small-town farm girl and a professor. The Howells were rich enough to afford their own yacht. What the heck were they doing on the Minnow?
Nothing about that show made any sense, but as children we didn't care!
malthaussen
(18,120 posts)Why the Howells were rubbing shoulders with the proles might reasonably be questioned. You'd have thought they had contacts with their own yachts who could have given the Howells a much more comfortable "tour." Maybe they wanted the thrill of slumming with the commoners.
As for Ginger, the song says "movie star," but never gave a filmography. She might well have just been a z-list actress who did eye-candy roles in exploitation flicks. Might not have had two dimes to rub together.

(45,756 posts)Howell embezzled the money. Remember the other were running away from various problems--Mary Ann--a loveless fiance, Ginger- a mob Boss, who owned a nightclub and the Professor by getting a job as a graduate of USC instead of Trump University.
malthaussen
(18,120 posts)So the Professor would have to have been straight-up lying.

(18,120 posts)Maximum fuel capacity would have allowed for a 400 mile range, but it is doubtful the boat would have been fully-fuelled for a "three hour tour."
In any event, the area around Honolulu for a 400-mile radius is pretty well explored. How strong the drift was, and how long they drifted, is unclear, but the intro song makes it sound like overnight, which wouldn't have gotten the Minnow very far even if the current had been unprecedented.
So the whole premise is kinda fishy.

(2,446 posts)Looking at the opening scenes and credits at the beginning of each episode of Leave It to Beaver, you can tell that the Cleavers' house is big. That house must have at least four bedrooms, maybe five or six. So, I always wonder, WHY do Wally and the Beaver have to share a bedroom?

(1,809 posts)Gilligan's Island was filmed not more than 30 feet from Apollo 11.
There was actually an episode where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldren made an appearance on the island but its been covered up.
Believe it or not, theres film of Gilligan and Ginger walking on the moon. Imagine the uproar if THAT ever saw the light of day.
