Leaf blowers need to be banned!

I'm getting tired of hearing these things running non-stop several days a week, it has to be the most annoying sound in the world. You can't sleep, can't watch TV, or concentrate on anything when they're running.

Anyone else have problems with leaf blowers in your area?

It isn't the leaf blowers fault, it's the inconsiderate jerks instead.

I will have a foot deep of leaves covering a majority of my yard before its all over.

What am I supposed to do with all those leaves? I sure as hell am not going to rake them.

I live in an apartment complex and we have them roaring 2-3 times every week for hours at a time.

like your apartment building. The profit margin is so razor thin, for both the owner, and the underpaid employees, and cleaning a vast expanse of leaves is extremely time consuming and even a bit back breaking. Try doing it by hand, yourself, and then maybe you might see things differently. For the record, I hate the whining sound of 2-stroke engines for hours on end too, try operating them.

If someone has a postage stamp sized yard, then raking is better. There are a lot of huge yards around here, which makes blowing the leaves the more efficient way to do it.

But then again I enjoy physical labor. Biggest PIA is bagging them though.

Leaf blowers are the absolute scourge, and for all the reasons others listed so far. Just a few days ago, I had a saturday off work ( one of 5 or 6 in a year ). Absolutely beautiful fall weather. I wanted to do a nice leisurely car waxing, with some music. Not 8 or 10 minutes into it, the across the street neighbor's lawn mowing service guy fires up this loud ass leaf blower ( sounds more like a chainsaw ) and proceeds to attempt to chase every last bit of clippings/leaves in a lousy quarter acre yard and ran that damned thing for 45 fucking minutes. Kicked up a shitload of dust too that stuck to everything, including me. Fine, I get through it. Early evening was even nicer than late afternoon. Just before dinner I decided to sit on the back patio and enjoy a quiet drink. Again, a neighbor behind my backyard gotta run his fucking leaf blower too. Though not as loud as the earlier one ( it had more of a high pitched whistle/scream ) but was nearly as annoying. Went back inside. They completely ruined a nice evening, which I get only on my days off on account of my work hours.

We only had a few leaf blowers, but man, did they make things easier. When we had to rake, bag, and carry the leaves, it made things so much harder and more time-consuming! I know they can be annoyingly loud, but have some sympathy for the underprivileged, oftern immigrant workers that use them in their daily tasks.

11. If You're "Green" Then How Can You Justify Using Them?

I probably shouldn't even comment on this thread because of my loathing of these things -- and of loud, smelly, intrusive "labor-saving" devices in general -- but I invite you to read this before you fire yours up instead of using a rake:

Suburban noise pollution is getting to resemble that of major urban centers. If I have to lose one of my senses as I age, I hope it's my hearing.

I actually don't use my leaf blower to blow leaves because it doesn't do that very well. I just rake them in a pile and use my leaf blower to shred them into little bits which I use on my flower beds. I figure that's considerably more green than raking them up, bagging them, and having them sent to the local landfill.

People blow crap all over my yard and I sneeze for the rest of the day.

We used to rake and bag stuff.....still do....what is the big deal?

I'm also glad that the neighbor's Camaro with the glass packs on it is broken down....don't have to hear that anymore either!

Here where I live, they keep blowing the leafs from one side to the other, then back again. They're probably paid by the hour and they're dragging the time.
