Schwarzenegger going to play the role of Conan

Arnold Schwarzenegger Reportedly Set to Star as “Conan the Barbarian” Again

“The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make,” producer Fredrik Malmberg tells the site.

He explains, “It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.”

And it sounds like Schwarzenegger is ready for the challenge.

“I always loved the Conan character and I’m honored to be asked to step into the role once again,” he’s quoted as saying.

Jason Mamoa was much much closer to the Conan in the novels.
They really should have given him contacts or digitally colored his eyes blue though.

Arnold's Conan was just Arnold lumbering around unable to actually move properly since his muscles weren't really that functional. However, since he was the First Conan and basically changed the books from a black haired, blue eyed Barbarian who has cat-like agility (which Mamoa actually has), he was the one able to popularize it, so the Arnold Conan is what most people consider as the true Conan, even when his movie was far and away from the source material.

As for me watching a new Arnold Conan. I will watch it out of principle.

However, if you're just going by the source material, it actually comes pretty close to the Conan in my mind.

The Conan in the source material also is a bit wittier. In that, Jason Mamoa doesn't really get that as much, but can't really expect much from that sadly. So, he talks more than an Arnold Conan, who gets away with just how big he is physically. Mamoa, is also taller than Schwarzenneger, but built as a martial artist rather than a body builder, so that's a stark difference already and he doesn't get the same presence. However, in regards to physical prowess, he definitely comes close, because he can actually jump, roll, and he is a martial artist.

I actually want to watch the coming Stallone flick called "Bullet to the Head" where Mamoa is the antagonist. He does well as a "Bad Guy" and he can be more intimidating in that type of role. He did play Khal Drogo after all.

I mean, a movie like that, you have to come in with lowered expectations.
