3 weeks ago my daughter noticed a bad tooth on CooCoo. We took him to the vet and they pulled 2 teeth. We told them to check his left eye. It was scratched really bad, he ended up with a corneal ulcer. For 2 weeks we have been putting 3 types of drops in his eye, 3 times a day. The one drop is a serum made from dog's blood, supposed to help healing.
Being an outdoor cat we locked him in the garage and put out a litter box so that we can find him when it's time for his treatment.
His eye looks pretty shitty, but the vet says it is healing and what we see is a scab forming over the ulcer. The problem is whether it heals well enough for him to see out of his eye, if he can't then he loses his eye.
CooCoo just showed up one day and he is at least 13 years old and he is a good boy, doesn't fight when I hold him and wife puts the drops in his eye. I just gave him some Boar's Head chipped chicken breast for being a good boy.
We should find out his status next Tuesday.

(30,798 posts)His good outdoor buddy, Tabby Cat passed away last year. CooCoo would protect Tabby Cat when the neighbor's dogs came around.
Tabby cat had the disease where his immune system doesn't work so if he gets sick he probably dies. 10 years ago we took him to the vet and the vet asked if we wanted to put him down, we said no, the 2 cats are friends, they don't fight. So we gave Tabby Cat 10 more years of life.

(30,798 posts)Our pets do as much for us as we do for them. I would take a golf club and go in my lower yard to hit some short shots. Dang near every time CooCoo would show up from somewhere and I guess want to play along. I would drop the golf ball and he would lay on it. So I had no choice but to give him his favorite spine rub. 🐱

(2,731 posts)He's been in the one-eye club for 10 years now, and I don't think he ever noticed the difference. If CooCoo has to have his eye removed, hopefully he'll adapt as well, give him a pet for me.

(8,400 posts)If he should lose the eye he will do just fine. Cats and dogs adjust to loss of any kind of health issue far better than humans. He is one lucky kitty to have you on his side.

I like to listen to blues and this reminds me of a tune I heard the other day. It's like, lord please let me die before my dog dies because I won't be able to take it. OK I forgot the words.
Just checked on him, he's in his heated cat house. 9 PM for his last treatment today, then he gets treats.
