(for a matter of days?) - is a little 'short' in some department.

who had been camped about 30 feet up a tree for 3 or 4 days. I told him to give the cat a few more days, he will come down when he was ready. My dad was a career Forest Service employee and had spent many hours in the woods as a kid so I asked him "how many cat skeletons have you ever seen up in trees?" The next day the cat was down in time for breakfast.

I've watched my own kittens trying to figure it all out--head first or tail firs?---and always had water and food ready when they either made the trip gracefully or went splat. Graceful or ungraceful, they were never hurt and from then on, knew they could get up and down again without intervention, useful in a semi rural area with wandering dogs.
