Willis had one movie acting credit before this. Rickman was a London West End stage actor. Neither had anywhere near a lead in a major movie production. The book was written back in the “Towering inferno” “Poseidon Adventure” days. The McClane role went through Sinatra Stallone and Schwartzegger before getting to Bruce.
Neither leads were on the movie poster.
Filmed at Fox Studios building that was under construction - to save money.
