I FELL IN LOVE with this song when I heard it sung by Richard Kiley on Ed Sullivan. I had just gotten a stereo for Christmas for my bedroom and I bought the Man of La Mancha album shown above here. I sang along and memorized the words and as a junior in high school, my peers had no knowledge of either the Broadway play OR that song.
We juniors sponsered a luncheon in the school basement for the Seniors Ring Day. I don't know where I got the nerve, but I sang The Impossible Dream acapela and it must have been moving because there were a lot of open mouths and misty eyes as they listened.
It was one of the proudest moments I can remember, and I love it to this day... so thank you.
