(14,213 posts)She was a sheep dog and very shaggy and I never noticed. One day I just heard some puppy squealing and found the dog giving birth under my bed. I moved mom and the puppies into the bathtub where she delivered the rest of the brood. They were ready for adoption a couple of weeks before Christmas and we made a lot of kids happy.

(775 posts)Mine was a shock too. I found this dog on a beach when I was painting a friend's parents' beach house one winter. She looked like a black lab but I never found an owner, the place was deserted anyway. I took her back to college with me and got a job with a vet to support her, and she had puppies about a month later. I did know she was pregnant before she whelped and built her a whelping box but she opted to have the puppies in my bed in the middle of the night.
She was a wonderful dog and I was totally in love with her and with the puppy I kept. Since then I've been smitten with labs but all my dogs have been rescue mongrels (and were all amazing, obviously). I bought my first purebred 2 years ago ( not many rescue dogs in the Netherlands) and of course I got a black lab. She could not be more unlike my first rescue if she tried.

(775 posts)Tell your dog we said hi! Willow doesn't do hugs, actually. She's a lab who won't cuddle, but she said you should give your pup a COOKIE!
