Classic rock trivia

True Oldies Channel dj mentioned that Badfinger wrote the Nillson hit Without you.

Badfinger band members Pete Helm and Tom Evans combined songs they were working on. The song was included on their 1970 debut album No Dice. Nillson made it a hit in 1971. The dj also mentioned that Paul McCartney produced Badfinger albums and sang on some of the songs Badfinger performed.

I'm going to listen to the Badfinger version now.

When I hear rock trivia I didn't know (and most of it I don't), I love following up. I've always liked Badfinger, but had no idea until today how influential they were.

Thanks for the link. I got my husband a Nilsson CD one Christmas. I might play it today

4. Bad finger Story: or, how we almost got our ass kicked by the Johnny Van Zant Band

Two squids ride out to Jacksonville Beach from the former Cecil Field on the far west of JVille. It’s the 1980’s.
We are going to see Badfinger at a tiny bar.
We were early enough to sit up front in metal folding chairs but were told the front row was reserved.
The front row filled in and someone asked my buddy if he was going to the Leonard Skynard reunion concert (first show of reunited band), in Jacksonville.
Buddy says, “ Frick no, Johnny’s just trying to make a bunch of money off his brothers name.”
We were immediately surrounded with people screaming at us. I specifically remember a guy yelling, “ Johny’s not like that!”
Yup, the reserved seats were for the Johnny Van Zant Band and friends. I don’t know how we got out but they were so mad they left and we went back in to see Badfinger. My Lady Blue.
* Johnny Van Zant was taking over Leonard Skynard for his deceased brother Ronnie for a highly anticipated reunion of the band.
