I was walking from living room to kitchen and looking up and didn't see my dog a golden and tripped over him. Came down so hard I couldn't move. Called abulance and have hip operation in a hour, I fractured it bad.
I am alone hubby left to sleep last night and I am scared and nervous so thought I would write my family you all.

If you are in the hospital, you are in good hands.
They will take good care of you.
I lucked out, the doctors, surgeon, nurses, physical therapists were fabulous.
Let them take care of you.
Relax if you can.

I'm sorry, TreeLady - good that the surgery is over now, sad this happened, good that the the hospital was there and they aren't waiting. My husband had a "right now don't wait" hip replacement last year, I hope what they do for you is as good as that.

(221 posts)Recovery is never easy, but its doable. And I know Goldens arent eager to move once they plop down. I rammed my foot into ours in the dark bedroom at night more times than I can count. The hazard is always there. But if youve got a modicum of good health, youll fully recover. Best of luck.

(6,210 posts)However, you absolutely must do the physical therapy they recommend and get on your feet as soon as possible. Also, you need to look at your diet! Be sure you are getting the proper amounts of calcium, magnesium, vitamins, protein, and more. And hydration! And once you are healed, please consider resistance training with weights. You can increase your bone density! You don't want this to happen again!

(114,506 posts)Heard/felt a big pop and my leg went out from under me. I didn't have the dignity of falling and breaking my hip, my hip broke and then I fell.
Four years later, nobody can tell which one I broke. My hands and wrists are trashed from RA, so I had to learn how to walk on my own. If your balance is decent and you are willing to work at it (pain and all), then you have the same potential.
Recovery will hurt, especially in the beginning, but the nasty twinges will get farther apart as time goes on. I can't give you a schedule for that, everybody is different, just realize it won't be forever, especially if you pay attention and do the exercises physical therapists tell you to do.

Hip operation went well. It will take 3 months to rehab it because of the injury not just repairing I got all new hip socket.
After operation pain went way down. I am not standing until tomorrow. But I think taking out the part where fracture was crushed on my socket took a bunch of pain away
It's so weird I have now taken a bunch of drugs I hoped never to have Fentenal, oxy, and a derivative of morphine.
I am determined not to become weak over this and get back to my active lifestyle.

(4,066 posts)I suspect the surgery is over? I hope it is behind you and you are now on the mend.
When it comes to go to a place to rehab please seek expert advice on the best place to go. A lot of nursing homes are not equipped but they make it very hard to leave. A rehab hospital is likely to be best, not a nursing home although some well-run ones are.
