Now, I really have a reason to visit Costa Rica

My elder daughter and her family went there for a week just before her husband starts his new job.

I have always wanted to see toucans up close in the wild. Now I know just where I need to go!!

Was a bit iffy at first; but it got all better!

Then that reminded me of a modest suburban park that we visited w cousins. It had some animals .

They had a toucan! 🥰

There are at least a couple DUers living there too.

I would go to see toucans too.

Come by Nuevo Arenal. I have 4 or 5 Toucans show up daily. I also have their smaller cousins, Aracaris and lots of Montezuma oropendolas.

Finding the time is the greatest challenge.

Maybe I should start looking into this retirement thing so many people talk about.

I really enjoy your posts. Maybe it takes a special wavelength so we don't need to add emojis for every damn comment.

There is an open-air primate park in Apeldoorn over in NL, about a 90 minute drive from here. Visitors are required to lock up everything that can possibly be removed by a fast-moving small thief, or else wear it in a tightly-zippered waist band. One time, next to us, we heard an infant in a baby carriage scream as if it had been stuck with a steak knife. A small death's head monkey had seen it playing with a pacifier, and swooped down and snatched it from the kid's hand. One second later, the monkey was thirty meters high in a tree examining his prize, and the kid in the baby carriage was screaming bloody murder.

A paradise for birdwatchers and wildlife photographers. A country without an army, it has positioned itself as an eco destination.

A few years back we were in CR, we go there often and were staying in Ciudad Colon at a friend’s house. She has a pool and we were relaxing by it taking in the sun. I was watching a family of dove’s in a tree not too far away and noticed a nest. I didn’t think to much of it when our attention was attracted to the nest after some god awful screeching. A toucan and swooped down and grabbed a chick and flew off with it. We were stunned……to say the least. What’s even more bizarre is the my other half was taking pictures of the fauna and caught the event. Just crazy!

A Latin American chemistry conference.
It was 2001, because it was a few months after my dad died.
I was surprised at the density of English speakers.
Day off during the conference to take a riding tour of the jungle areas.
Pretty impressive views.
