The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsA strange thing happened today.
It started with a dream last night where I was trying to help a woman who was about to collapse. She was an older lady and in the dream, I could tell she was very unsteady on her feet. My skills as a therapist kicked in immediately and I had no fear I could stabilize the woman until someone brought a chair, which they did and I got her safely in it. I don't remember much else about the dream.
Later in the morning, I was having friends meet me at the member bash at the local winery. One of my friends wasn't feeling so great and needed to sit down while we were checking in. I got her some fruit leather from the girl at the check-in desk in case it was low blood sugar that was troubling her. She took a few bites and said she was ok, but decided to go home. I told her I would walk her to her car. On the way to the car, she said she was going to faint and was going to fall. Just as in the dream, my skills kicked in and I used my body to hold her up until someone brought a chair. It was so strange to see the exact scenario in my dream play out in real life.
I have had similar things happen to me in life where I "knew" something before I could possibly know it, but to have the scene play out exactly as I saw it in my dream left me with a very strange feeling.
Long story short, after my friend got cleared by the medic that was on the scene, I drove her home and had my husband pick me up and take me back to the winery to meet my other friends. Later this evening when we were all done with festivities I called my friend who had been ill and learned she was in an ambulance being transported to a (SECOND) hospital for the day and was on her THIRD diagnoses for the day--I'm still confused about that, as it sounds like the medical team is too. It's either a blood clot or heart attack. I'm sending good vibes and ask that you do as well. But what a strange, strange day it has been. I'm not sure what to call the situation where I was re-living something in a dream. Maybe I'll do some research.

(1,916 posts)Ill try to explain what I understand. This is based and limited to my experience and understanding . There are likely to be other experiences and interpretations that will differ. All is both within and without. No judgement .
Consciousness is not bounded by time and space. In sleep, our monkey brain isnt dominating the mind. Images, pictures, and impressions can float between the past, present, and future because space-time is not confined.
Occasionally, a dream gets dropped into us like a package. Sometimes we remember the dream when we wake up. Other times, we remember it later, when its triggered by an event, as you described. You can think of this as Grace tapping you on your shoulder.
We are called to do the work in the world of form and matter. When you are, and you realize you are, its mind-blowing. This is a good time to simply be present and open. Dont overthink it. It may happen to many people, perhapsbut it is a gift. Talk to your soul and allow yourself to unfold in the sublime light, with gratitude and love.
And dont judge yourself if this is a one-off. You dont really know why, and you dont need to know. It simply IS.

Cut yourself some slack. Take it just a teensy bit slower. It'll clear away some of the stress while you focus on healing.
And please do let us know how you're doing, when you get a chance.

Precognitive (or prescient) dreams
are experiences where dreams appear to predict future events with remarkable detail, reported by 30-50% of people. While science often attributes these to coincidence, subconscious pattern recognition, or memory, some theories explore quantum physics or heightened emotional intuition. These dreams often act as warnings about health or life events.

(131,726 posts)diagnosis, and swift and complete recovery and healing. I am so glad you were able to be there with your friend. I believe you kept her from additional harm that might have happened had she been alone.
Having such a prophetic dream can be a bit unnerving the first time it happens. And yours may just have been a one-off, or it may be an indication of a new ability..The weirder one is when you see these things when you are awake!
Please keep us posted on your friend, and on how you are doing.
A thought just occurred to me. Had you spent any time around your friend recently before this wine event? I am wondering if you were subconsciously picking up some very subtle indications that all was not well.
Hugggggs for you both.

(4,387 posts)To answer your question, no I havent spent any time with her lately, but I knew she was just getting over a UTI In fact I wasnt going to invite her if she was still feeling poorly. But Friday she told me she was over it and feeling much better so I invited her to come along. She didnt look so good when she arrived at my house. But I hadnt seen her in a month or so before this morning and shes always been in good health.

I used to dream of things before they happened. One example was the dream I had
after we learned my father-in-law was very ill. My husband and his brother Greg were going to
be with my mother-in-law and father-in-law at the hospital in another state the next morning.
I was to drop my husband off at the airport where he would meet Greg. I would join everyone at the weekend.
I couldn't go to sleep at first, but finally I was so tired I dozed off.
I dreamed that I got up out of bed and went to the window.
As I looked out the window I could see my brother-in-law Greg's car pulling into the
parking lot in front of our apartment. He pulled into a space at the back of the parking lot.
He got out of the car and came to the door and knocked.
I knew in the dream that he was coming to tell us my father-in-law had died.
The dream was so vivid I actually got out of the bed and stood by the window.
My husband asked me, "What are you doing?"
I replied, "Waiting for Greg, he's coming over."
A few moments later the phone rang. It was Greg, and he was coming to the apartment.
Everything happened as I dreamed. Greg pulled into the exact spot I saw in the dream, he came to the door, and knocked.
He then told us my father-in-law had passed.
I've always been very grateful that I was prepared for what happened.
I loved both my in-laws, and my father-in-law's death was a shock to everyone.
Perhaps you, too, were prepared by the dream for what happened to your friend.
