"I got you."

Last Thursday, I purchased concert tickets for an event that's months into the future for myself, my son and my daughter. I had to secure these tickets somewhat quickly because they're selling out.

I shouldn't have been so frivolous but it's been 9 years since I've attended any type of musical entertainment venue. I almost got tickets last year for a Doors cover band but it didn't pan out over schedules.

And since it's been forever that I purchased tickets and boy have things sure have changed. I bought the tickets off StubHub. The last time I did this StubHub sent the barcoded tickets to your email address so that the attendee could print them out. This time they wanted the purchaser to transfer the tickets to either the "Ticketmaster" app or to the "Wallet" app on my cell phone. I sat there staring blankly at the screen like a deer in headlights for long awhile.

Me texting my son: "Hey, I'm going to need your help with some technology at some point today."

His reply: "I got you. I'll text you when I get out of work."

Me: "Thank you!!"

He did text and stop by and he did help me figure out the transfer.

The same thing happens when I ask my daughter for help (generally always tech support help as well) and her reply is always, "I got you."

From my perspective "I got you" is one of the most fantastic things that an adult child can say to a parent.

I try not to dwell on it too much because I end up tearing up a bit.

I find it easier to simply search the internet and find out how to do stuff myself

Not just because I have no family or descendants, there are usually a few 20-somethings at work who would help. I'd just rather know how to do things.

that when cell phones first came out I *DID* hit up the 20-somethings at work for a couple of things, simply because time was an issue......but yes, it's amazing what you can learn with on your own now

to occasionally ask her adult children for help and they immediately respond with, "I got you."

Those kids were raised right!

And, no doubt, the son and daughter will feel fantastic helping out mom, who's been there for them all their lives. Little ways they can give back.

They spend some quality time figuring things out together and part ways feeling a reinforcement of a lifelong attachment, the most meaningful kind. Always there for each other.

Skittles, no amount of Google searches in the world will come close to matching that, no matter how fast or how informative.

I've noticed a lot of older people who rely on others too much lose a lot too, AND it contributes to the ridiculous stereotype that us old dogs cannot learn new tricks........

would blink forever if you didnt reset it after it was unplugged. My grandparents the clock just blinked constantly . I would set the digital clocks whenever I was there. that was considered technology then . Now I dont think I could buy tickets.

The "how to" on StubHub still says that tickets will be emailed to the attendee but that's not how the tickets are obtained. It's confusing especially when technology changes and someone has zero experience with the new technology and the transfer of tickets. The Wallet app is confusing as well.

Sometimes I miss standing in line to buy tickets and keeping the stubs and putting them in a photo album.

I guess at certain times I'm old school. lol
