He had a recent fall here at Masonicare where we live now and was whisked off to the nearest hospital. He's OK, stable, doing fine but his medical team thought it was a good idea to stabilize him further and fix the fracture in his anke. They called me early, woke me up and told me what their plan was.
That was a few hours ago. Hope to hear a good report once they finish ankle surgery. I'm so glad they are doing this. Falls can be fatal to the elderly. He will have physical therapy from a good team at Yale New Haven hospital.
I know he's in good hands!

(5,611 posts)I hope he gets home soon, and has a good recovery. It gets harder as we get old, doesn't it?
Best to you both!

(80,901 posts)When I fell and broke my spine in three places I happened to be close to
a huge university medical center.
I was randomly assigned an ortho surgeon.
I asked him if he had experience with this kind of surgery, etc.
He said he did.
I looked him up and he turned out to be one of the top ten ortho surgeons
in the entire US. I was so embarrassed that I raked him over the coals regarding
his qualifications.

(5,810 posts)It shows it was time for you both to be there even if just for the prepared food and staff to tend to situations like this. Make sure he follows their directives about putting weight back on it. The science has moved to putting weight on as soon as safe to speed healing Only upon their direction, as each injury has particular issues.
