Two shots to get the party started. Now, a Highland Fling, a variation on the classic Rob Roy. Two and a half ounces of blended scotch, and three quarters of an ounce of sweet vermouth, instead of half an ounce, and orange bitters in place of Angostura bitters. Yummy!

4. Gad, that brings back memories

I recall that the Rob Roy was surprisingly good. I had misgivings about mixing scotch with sweet vermouth, but the bitters worked it out somehow.

But the most incredible expression of the main ingredients is the Manhattan, my favorite cocktail.

But I can't drink alcohol in the evening anymore. Makes me wake up in the night.
So, I have a cocktail with my main meal at lunch and a light supper. Retired, of course, too, so a nap in the afternoon is easily arranged!

21. I was told that it's a reference to the Creek Indian tribe

and not water flowing under a bridge or anything like that I had always commonly believed.

Many historians support this attributing the saying to Benjamin Hawkins who served as General Superintendent for Indian Affairs under George Washington and had responsibility for the Native American tribes south of the Ohio River, and principal agent to the Creek Indians. The story goes that while down south, Hawkins was summoned back to the nation’s capital by Washington with Hawkins writing back that he would return “God willing and the Creek don’t rise.” Meaning if the Creek tribe ‘rose’, Hawkins would have to be present to quell the rebellion and forego his trip to Washington.

15. French (White) Negroni

1 1/2 oz gin

1 oz Lillet Blanc

1/2 oz Suze

Lemon twist for garnish

Combine gin, Lillet Blanc and Suze in a mixing glass with ice and stir until well-chilled, about 15 seconds. Strain into a chilled rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with lemon twist.
