We will probably see it this weekend.
In this 50th year of the James Bond series, with the disappointing "Quantum of Solace" (2008) still in our minds, "Skyfall" triumphantly reinvents 007 in one of the best Bonds ever made. This is a full-blooded, joyous, intelligent celebration of a beloved cultural icon, with Daniel Craig taking full possession of a role he earlier played well in "Casino Royale," not so well in "Quantum"--although it may not have been entirely his fault. I don't know what I expected in Bond #23, but certainly not an experience this invigorating.

(16,399 posts)Very good Bond flick, better than the last two, IMHO. Bardem is a great villain.

I want to see this 3rd one.

(27,677 posts)The writers' strike hit during production and halting production wasn't really an option.
On Quantum, we were fucked.] We had the bare bones of a script and then there was a writers strike and there was nothing we could do. We couldnt employ a writer to finish it. I say to myself, Never again, but who knows? There was me trying to rewrite scenes and a writer I am not. -Daniel Craig - interview with Time Out London
This one looks like a good one. Much like Casino Royale, a good film in its own right, not just a good Bond film. Rotten Tomatoes ratings (reviewers' / audience):
Casino Royale: 95% / 87%
Skyfall: 93% / 91%
Quantum of Solace: 64% / 62%

(33,688 posts)I really like Craig as Bond and the villain is supposedly fantastic. Great villains make great Bond films. Think I'll go see this one in the theater.

(33,688 posts)but a great villain can save even a pedestrian Bond film. Viz, Christopher Walken's completely insane and utterly fantastic Max Zorin in "A View To A Kill."

(7,570 posts)The cinematography is absolutely gorgeous. There is a fight scene in a Shanghai office building against the neon displays of downtown that is just breathtaking, and other scenes that actually had me whispering, "Wow".
Best Bond movie since Goldfinger, IMHO.

(8,217 posts)It was much better than the 2nd. I think I still liked the first one better.
The Second Stone
(2,900 posts)Javier Bardeem did an excellent job, and his villain was the weakest part of the film. Kinda cartoony. As good as Casino Royale.

(27,677 posts)with him as Q, the franchise was beginning to head back into Roger Moore era campy silliness.

(12,132 posts)loved it. Well worth the cash for the big screen and sound.
There was a group of guys behind us and one of them must have gotten up 10 times for various trips to the snack bar and bathroom and who knows. I couldn't help but laugh after the movie was over as he began to tell his friends how he was disappointed in this one because stuff didn't make sense. They asked him how he thought that and it turns out every time he was gone, something important happened.
Well duh, dumbass.
It was funny as his friends kept explaining what he missed and he'd be all "ohhhhhhhh..."
And I call him a dumbass more because he kicked the back of my seat every damn time he got up. These were grown men too. Not kids or even young men.
But other than a dumbass behind me for part of the movie it was great.
