True funny dog story

As I have mentioned before I have a pretty large 7 year old German Shepherd. Now this part isn't funny but sad. My older sister dog sits often for a guy she dated in high-school. Unfortunately he has cancer, he is not terminal at this point, but will likely end up so in the next couple of years. His dog is a cross between a Shih Tzu and a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. The owner's intention is to leave the dog to my sister, when he passes. So we decided it might be a good idea to try and introduce the dogs carefully a week ago from Sunday.

My sister stood with the Shih Tzu, outside Dakota's fenced in play area. I then let Dakota out. He immediately noticed my sister and the other dog. He barked twice the Shih Tzu wagged it's tail and started to approach looking eager to make a new friend. Dakota stops barking, turns around runs back into the house all the way to my bedroom where his crate is, got in, and wouldn't come back out. So I just shut the gate and let him stay there. Poor Dakota he can be such a big baby sometimes. His groomer calls him a big adorable goofball.

I said to him, "You're supposed to be a big brave German Shepherd but you're afraid of a Shih Tzu mix. How messed up is that?" I am glad he did not show any signs of aggression, but wished he had wanted to meet a new friend.
