I raised my boy right! (Plus we have cats, so it protects them from drinking from an unsanitary bowl and spares us a gross-out.)

Like you, we have cats, but they like to play in the water, not drink it.

When my husband has friends over, many of them do not, which annoys me. Leave things the way you found them - if the seat and lid are down when you go in, pay attention.

It also creeps me out to find drops of urine left behind on the rim or the floor. I don't want to be wiping up someone else's pee, either in my own home, or in a public, gender neutral bathroom.

Overspray doesn't clean itself?

Some men just don't appreciate what magical lives they lead. *eyeroll*

...taking a shower. As a nurse, I had tried to teach them proper terminology. Urinate was a bit over their linguistic abilities early on, and it got abbreviated to "nate." OK, close enough.

I overheard the younger one saying to the older one, "Let's have a nate fight." I was able to intervene in time.

A nate fight is something that would never even occur to those of us with female plumbing.

Cured me of thinking back fondly and wishing I'd had a brother for mine. (He did get a sister but they were seven years apart and never doubled up in the bathroom.) 😄

leave you to fall into the toilet bowl if you're not paying attention due to the seat being up?

Anyway, glad you addressed this with post 999 and not milestone post 1,000. That shouldn't be devoted to toilet etiquette, IMO!

I always close the lid, too.

Some say that closing the lid before flushing is sanitary as it prevents toilet mist from infecting the bathroom. I close the lid simply to keep things from falling in the bowl.

"If you can put the seat down, I can put the seat up; it's called teamwork!"

I found out pretty fast she didn't think that was funny. So from then on I always put the seat down.
