Tiger's manager Mayo Smith moved Mickey Stanley from center field to shortstop to get more hits. Allowed for more firepower in the outfield. Probably won the series, a really impactful and brilliant managerial move.

But the number of first basemen who would have the speed and arm to play outfield would be few.

I saw a Met's game at Shea Stadium in the Ed Kranepool Cleon Jones '60s once. You never forget the great baseball names.
