OK, I know that I'm not going to be able to watch tonight b/c of work, I think HipChick is traveling...
So please take pity on us and anyone else unable to watch tonight and give us a scene-by-scene (if possible) rundown here.
Pretty please? THANKS!

(46,715 posts)The Governor keeps his zombie daughter around. Michonne broke into his place to get her sword but didn't find the daughter. Walking around the private area of the compound she found caged zombies and slaughtered them and was reprimanded for it. Why do they have caged zombies? We find out at the end of the show.
Meanwhile Rick goes cray-cray and goes into Block C to clean it out of the zombie threat. The others go out to hunt for formula.
Suspenseful moments between the Governor and Michonne. Michonne decides to leave, but Angela won't leave with her. They actually let Michonne go. Angela sticks around and that night we find out why they have caged zombies. They chain them down in a circle and the men fight in the middle of the circle just feet from the zombies. If they stumble they can be bitten by the zombies. This they do voluntarily.
At the end of the show, Rick comes out of his shock when the phone rings. He goes to answer it. Hello? The end.

Watching Darryl and Merle you have to presume that Merle took a double helping of all the f-ed up chromosones in their genetic family tree.
well, the governor's daughter is being kept in a secret room - and, she's a walker, just like in the comics. The governor hugged her and said that daddy still loves her.
Michonne went out the back of Woodbury and found a bunch of walkers locked up in a cage. She let them out & killed them all (oh, she had retrieved her katana by then). Then, she got in trouble for Breaking & Entering.
Daryl & Maggie went to a nearby daycare center and found diapers & formula and raced back to the prison.
Rick went on a killing spree through the prison with just him & an axe. He finally found where Lori died, only the only thing left was her wedding ring and a trail of blood. Rick followed the trail and discovered a walker that had apparently eaten her. He jabbed open the stomach - and then, the phone rang. He picked it up & said "hello" and the episode ended (huge comic spoilers to follow) In the comics, the voice on the other end of the phone is.... Lori
end of spoilers..
Before that, Michonne left Woodbury on her own, leaving Andrea behind. Then, they had the Saturday night celebration - Merle and one other guy fought in an arena surrounded by half a dozen chained walkers. The Bread & Circuses of the town... Andrea is repelled, but the governor says they're teaching the people not to be afraid.

(13,661 posts)so, in the comic, what happened to Lori?

Hayabusa
(2,135 posts)As for the prison, if I remember correctly, that setting lasts from issue #12 or 13 until ~#40's. Someone with a lot more knowledge (and single issues...) may need to correct me on that.

IMO, not the strongest episode of the season by a long shot, but the Governor's daughter was kind of cool, even if she was a little passive (is she drugged up somehow?).

(18,705 posts)The Governor is really off.
NickB79
(19,246 posts)I don't think we could handle that, as we had a toddler periodically coughing and sniffling while trying to sleep her way through a cold in the next room as we watched TV.
joshcryer
(62,271 posts)It would be crazy (and they may do it some time) but generally you'd see babies as being insta-devouring targets and they'd be consumed by any zombies capable of "infecting" them. Basically, they'd need to die naturally, survive the transition, and still be able to crawl around. Not something I see happening often.
I do agree it was a lost opportunity, though, I was expecting it the whole while. However, I was pleased with how they did it, because a possum as the only "threat" (and then turned into food) was a more hilarious and unexpected turn of events (granted, I didn't ever expect a zombie because I'm fairly in tune with the series at this point).

They show this so many times through the week, wouldn't you (and possibly others)
just want to see it straight from the source rather than "spoiled" by these instant
synopses? There's a REASON why they're called spoilers.
.
You include SPOILERS in your headline now (that is a nice thing), but the reason why
I was so upset without that is that I didn't imagine for a MOMENT that people would
discuss the show in real time... rather than an after-the-fact discussion of what the
show contained.
.
And not everyone can see it at the same time -- there's a time zone delay. Some folks
can't RESIST peeking and then have their full enjoyment of the show ruined by their
(and your) desire for immediate gratification.
.
This reminds me of the frenzied Apple fanatics who camp out for days to be FIRST
with the latest up-to-the-split-second product.
.
Sorry for the rant. There's just something about about the need for such extreme
immediate gratification (at a possible penalty to others, their "own" fault or not).
.
That show will still be there for you to enjoy at a slightly later time. Breathe deeply.

Flaxbee
(13,661 posts)Those images haunt me.
I am fascinated by the story, but like to follow it in a sanitized way.
Plus, the show freaks certain family members out so much that I rarely do get to see it uninterrupted.
So, this way I can follow what's going on. Or, I can just quit asking for these threads, and read the recaps on Monday.
And I like the discussion of the differences between the show and the comic books.
I just assume that if someone mentions a show or a movie in the thread title, spoilers may lurk within.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)I read this thread first.

MiddleFingerMom

.
.
I figured I'd come in after seeing the show (no spoilers, so I thought) and ask if I missed
something about Carol's death -- I thought she just disappeared, yet there's a grave for
her.
.
But, even having SEEN the show, I think I saw spoilers from some interview with someone
associated with the show -- plus, even though they often (sometimes) deviate from the
show, I hate to see when people say "this is what is going to happen to her/him/etc. --
according to the graphic novels".
.
When a show twists and turns as much as this one does -- and when NO character is safe
from being written out -- I want to experience that while immersed in the art (this show
is so well done, I think it's safe to say there's art created in the making of it).
.
I wouldn't mind having a resource where I could discuss what we saw (like asking if it
were CLEAR what the small object Rick found was (I assumed it was a bullet -- which
reiterated the possibility that Carl MISSED (accidentally or on purpose), but someone
revealed what it was because they had read about it in the novel.
.
The show's too good -- it's worth waiting for each week -- for me to have my enjoyment
of it lessened by someone who is sometimes just showing off their knowledge that goes
beyond what most of us are glued to and immersed in.
.
.
.
Flaxbee
(13,661 posts)You do things your way, I'll do things mine. Others will choose to participate, or not. And if they're kind enough to "show off their knowledge that goes beyond what most of us are glued to..." because I specifically ask them to, well, that's another matter altogether, isn't it?
MiddleFingerMom
(25,163 posts)Flaxbee
(13,661 posts)You seem to think that posts discussing this show are selfish. If you don't want to know what might have happened on the show, don't click on the link. Especially one with a spoilers tag.
Why is that so difficult? It bothers you. So don't click.
MiddleFingerMom
(25,163 posts).
.
.
My complaint, if you read a little closer... is with the people who are inconsiderate and
reveal FUTURE spoilers (or potential spoilers as in "this is how it's going to happen if it's
the same as the book" or "this is what so-and-so said was going to happen in an
interview" . THAT'S inconsiderate and something most people wouldn't expect. That's
not a normal discussion thread -- it's taking away the suspense that WOULD have been
involved in future shows.
.
I won't click -- but now I can't enjoy a thread discussing what HAS happened because
of the people who insist on telling everybody what WILL happen (or what there's a very
good chance of happening). You're not going to watch it, so you don't care about other
folks who will, apparently.
.
There goes MY enjoyment of "Walking Dead" discussion threads because people don't
have enough consideration to put in the subject line of their reply "FUTURE SHOW
SPOILER" ahead.
.
Thanks a lot for not understanding -- no, for ENCOURAGING that kind of behavior.
.
.
.
Baitball Blogger
(46,715 posts)Yes, I do like that little zing of surprise. Funny how Walking Dead manages to do that even when someone gives me the cheat sheet.

MiddleFingerMom

... not only seem to not be able to be considerate of others, but they get an attitude of
"how dare you criticize me for that?" So I won't be viewing any more of these types of
threads, though I would LOVE to discuss what has happened on shows past.
.
And the reason I put -- their "own" fault or not -- in quotes like that is that many people
have hopes or at least expectations that others on this normally fairly considerate site
would refrain from posting spoilers about future events -- so those mistaken hopes or
expectations COULD be seen as their "own" fault for looking at a show discussion thread.
I've seen that attitude taken by a belligerent someone (I don't remember who) on another
show discussion thread (I think it was a different show, though that's not really a moot
point). Even though this thread has a nice "SPOILER" announcement, I don't think many
would think that FUTURE spoilers would be revealed -- it's just not considerate behavior
towards those who want the uncertain anticipation of such a compelling show.
.
So they may learn from an unpleasant and "spoiling" experience(s) not to trust that ALL
others would behave in a considerate manner... as I have.

Systematic Chaos
(8,601 posts)As they've already said upthread, there have been at least close to 50 comics published, plus novels.

(62,271 posts)I wish I had cable or I'd watch in real time and enjoy the shit out of the comments every commercial break.
As it stands now I get my shows online and have to read peoples reactions after the fact.
I still like reading REAL TIME reactions because they're really FUN!
And fun is the whole point of shows!
MiddleFingerMom
(25,163 posts).
.
.
... was almost three hours before the show aired here -- so I mistakenly thought it was
going to be a recap of previous shows and/or SPECULATION about the coming episode.
.
I saw three unannounced spoilers before I realized that it had been a mistake to open it.
.
Unannounced spoilers. By the OP (that was edited and fixed) and by the folks replying.
.
I have no problem with realtime reactions -- they ARE interesting... but not to people
who don't share your realtime. And I enjoy the suspense of the show WAY more than
the realtime reactions -- if I have to choose. My complaint is with revelations of future
developments (and East Coast, etc realtime reactions ARE future revelations to those
of us further west).
.
I'm not trying to keep anyone from having fun. But it diminished MY fun with the way
it was presented. I'm STILL trying to ask for some considerate behavior but, odd for
this site, that seems to be inappropriate and unacceptable to (and even RESENTED
by) some.

joshcryer
(62,271 posts)...but in general I find no fault with posts that are in EDT, CDT, MDT, PDT!
Granted, I am basically behind everyone because it doesn't come online that much, so I don't care so much.
I frankly would not read or post into a SPOILER thread unless I actually wanted SPOILERS, but that may be just me.
I mean, in theory, if an episode has aired and the post is after that episode, then logically once can assume that the content is spoilers for that episode, most certainly.
And if a post is around the same time as the airing of that episode, then one can assume, legitimately, that said episode is airing or about to air.
So I'd stay away from said posts at any cost.
If it was a "midweek" spoiler post then I could assume that it was merely a general discussion thread, but a post "around the time of airing"? Hell no, I'm not going into that shit until I am 100% sure that I have seen the episode. I'll even go through responses to make sure, "Is that what episode I'm on?"
I'm sorry you had your personal experience diminished, but I really, honestly, find it fascinating to read the peoples "real time" responses which I myself am unable to enjoy because I don't have cable and can't watch in "real time" regardless of timezone. It's one thing I really enjoyed back in the day with shows like Firefly (I was one of the few people to watch it as it aired). So much full of win and awesome.
I suggest you look at the "time of post" from now on and assume spoilers are in said post unless you want to be spoiled. I admit that if someone posts an official spoiler post "too early" then it's not so fun, but that is not the case here. This post was Nov. 11. Any reasonable person should've assumed that it was spoilers for the LATEST episode.
MiddleFingerMom
(25,163 posts).

... so I had no way of knowing in that case. The title was graciously edited, but the
spoiler warning was added after the fact.
.
.
.
I won't be looking at ANY "Walking Dead" discussion threads as I can't be certain that
they won't have unannounced future spoilers in them.
.
It's a trade-off. I'll skip enjoying discussions of the show in favor of the much greater
enjoyment of watching "unspoilered" shows.
.
.
.
But I sure wish I could enjoy both.

(62,271 posts)Are you saying Lounge posts can be "stealth edited"? I don't post in the lounge much, I was just wondering if there was a Walking Dead thread here and wondering if anyone else thought Carl messed up... then I saw your post complaining about spoilers and such.
Either way it was posted on the 11th and it talked about that episode.
"OK, Ready for The Walking Dead? Please post updates here," on the 11th, WHEN THE EPISODE WAS AIRING could not be interpreted ANY other way utilizing even a remote bit of logic and reason.
I suggest in the future that you DON'T READ any thread posted on the AIR DATE of an episode REGARDLESS of the title. Just don't do it.

joshcryer
(62,271 posts)I mean, I know that zombies generally attack "fresh meat" but it seems that she had to have been alive to be consumed, as we have yet to have seen a non-living human being eaten...
...in that event it seems that Lori was eaten alive and possibly even woke up while being devoured.
