Duck and Cover!

From the Korean War up till 1952, ham radio operators were by law required to monitor a.m. broadcast radio every 10 minutes, or have a device connected to their transmitter that would notify them of a CONELRAD (Containment of Electromagnetic Radiation) alert, and automatically shut down their transmitter.

A CONELRAD activation meant we were under nuclear attack.

Chilling nostalgia.
