“National Seersucker Day is a celebration of style and the joy of dressing well,” said Laurie Haspel, fourth-generation owner of Haspel. “A tradition my great-grandfather started nearly 120 years ago. Partnering with two historic hotels that embody hospitality and timeless charm makes this year’s celebration especially meaningful.”

The origins of National Seersucker Day can be traced to 1996, when Mississippi Senator Trent Lott revived a long-forgotten Senate tradition by designating a warm June day as “Seersucker Thursday.” His goal was to remind Americans that style and good humor have always had a place in public life. The tradition quickly grew in popularity, becoming an annual celebration embraced by lawmakers and seersucker fans alike. In 2004, Senator Dianne Feinstein helped expand women’s participation in the Senate, further cementing the event as a lighthearted tradition that celebrates summer style and camaraderie.

Today, seersucker continues to be embraced by new generations who appreciate its comfort, versatility and unmistakable character. Once known primarily for its classic blue-and-white stripes, seersucker has evolved into a year-round fabric featured in tailored clothing, sportswear, and modern lifestyle collections.

those that too often mouth off at the slightest provocations. Too many people are touched off too easily by remarks that they have misinterpreted or misheard or just can't take a humorous comment in stride.
