I woke up in a pretty sour mood and I expected it to go downhill from there. I went out to run errands and since I was dangerously low on gas, I decided to go to Costco. I barely made it to the gas pumps. Then I decided to go inside and get more kitty litter. My cats are going through so much of it because their veterinary food makes them drink so much water. But I digress. I was still in bad humor and it seemed like everybody was deliberately getting on my nerves. I was going down an aisle when I stopped to check out a package of tuna. There was a woman there who said the tuna costs too much and I said everything costs too much and the next thing I knew we were talking and laughing about the price of tuna; where to find the expiration date; and what does wild caught mean? It was so good to have that four to five minutes of connecting with another human being, a complete stranger, commiserating with each other and laughing, reminding me that there are still nice, friendly people in the world. It made my day and brightened my mood considerably. I even smiled at the guy checking my receipt and told him to have a nice day when I left!
I felt so good the rest of the day. I think I smiled at everybody.

(17,703 posts)The quality of items is consistently strong, and good value and often interesting selection.
Been a member for over 30+ years, refuse to go to Walmart.
Costco is my first stop for nearly everything, from toilet paper to cream to planters to couches to a greenhouse on sale for $999, to TVs to Tshirts, solidly discounted gasoline (especially considering the 5% back on the Costco Citicard), multiple sets of tires (which they install and provide multi-year road hazard protection), blue jeans, almonds and pistachios,, frequently stopping for a $3 lunch of a large slice of pizza and refillable soda on the way out the door.
I get my moneys worth from the membership, in 30+ years they have never made me mad, and the Costco-affiliated Citicard (but never keep a balance) has been my go-to for 30+ years. I cannot recall EVER buying anything there and afterward thinking I over-paid for this or this is really an inferior product.
But the number one thing i like about them? They respect and pay their employees. They actually respect their customers, too, which is unheard of in 2026 America.
Their stock has been a healthy and steady investment as well.
