Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsMy 82 yo mom's new fur baby adoption, Sasha the Sable Burmese.
Moms found her from an ad on the Burmese cats Facebook group, someone said their 8 yo Burmese girl was being bullied by her 3 other cats and spent all her time locked in the bedroom for her safety. Her owner really didn't want to give her up but thought she'd be better off in a good home where that wouldn't happen.
My mom, otoh, has had her 3 Burmese (two of them sables) pass away over the past 2.5 years, including the last one a few weeks ago so she and stepdad were so sad to be cat-less for the first time in about 18 years.
So at my folks place she gets to be an 'only child', have a big house to herself and be absolutely spoiled rotten (as Burmese definitely prefer)
We're so happy for mom & pops & Sasha and can't wait to visit and meet the new family member!

(4,699 posts)I had 2 Siamese over the years (not pure bloods) that I loved tremendously, and my most missed kitty - they all had long lives... The kitty I bonded the most with was a - I think the coloring is called a Lilac-tip Siamese - which was primarily white with reddish coloring on ears, face and tail (instead of black/grey) he had the most fabulous Blue Eyes. *sigh* I miss them all, but especially him..
I think though, that my current cat is a reincarnation of the Lilac-tip. I got him at a shelter, he was 8 months, so not quite a kitten, but more a teenager. I had been looking at other cats, I didn't see any Siamese and was almost was going to try a big orange cat who had a big personality. THEN then He was brought into the room - and it was as if we both did a double-take.
I felt like I recognized him, and he me.
But he is a Tuxedo! With Green Eyes. He has a splash of white going up one side of his nose, it looks light Lightening. I named him Stormy. We bonded immediately.
Cats are so good for the human soul. Especially when you bond.
I think the Burmese found the best path, and it is good to spoil em.

(136,024 posts)a great Mom, Dad, and sib, not to mention dozens of aunts and uncles who will be happy to hear from you.
She looks so much like my Sable, one of my first kitties. I was visiting a frend, who happened to be watching her because of a similar situation, except she was a kitten. She walked up to me, climbed into my arms, looked up at me for a minute, and promptly fell asleep, purring. She lived to almost 18.
We will, of course, expect regular updates and PICS!!!

(4,699 posts)OMG, they are the best cats ever.,and, Ive had a lot of cats., Burmese are amazing. They talk with you. They fetch. They want to be with you all the time. They get along with dogs. They act like kittens when they are 18. Best cats ever. We call ours, the alien, because she has those ears and doesnt really look like a standard cat.

(15,364 posts)He was my grandsons. A kitten he got from his dad and he was being bullied. I had a dog but all my cats were gone. He got along fine with the dog and really missed him when he passed.
Sashais a beauty and the name fits her. I'm sure she will be a perfect only child.

(4,410 posts)Our favorite cat ever was a Burmese. Sashi (so close to your mom's cat's name). He was playful, sweet, and when he purred he drooled and then shook it all over us.
We lost him too soon, after he started chasing and chewing his tail to a bloody pulp. We had to have the tail amputated, and during the recovery period with the cone around his neck he managed to get out of the house. The vet had warned us that the cone would interfere with his vision, and sure enough he got hit by a car.
