(265 posts)Twinkies seemed to be denser & more flavorful when I was a kid in the 1970s. Now, they seem like they're puffed up with air, or something, and the creme filling is nauseating.
Then again, as you wondered, maybe my tastes have changed as well. I don't seem to crave sweets like I once did as a child, preferring salty snacks instead. In addition, I do remember reading that aging taste buds gradually lose acuity over time, so who knows?

If you really need them, you can do it. For some reason, I recall Alton Brown making them too
