Always thought it looked interesting ever since I saw Martha Stewart on her show diving for them off Maine and eating them fresh out of the water.

And just for the record, I wouldn't recommend it, but then I'm not Martha Stewart.

6. When you say Puerto Rican
Fri Nov 23, 2012, 12:06 PM
Nov 2012

do you mean specifically Puerto Rican or will general vicinity latin/island type food do?

I ask because I can go outside and get in my car and drive to 10 different cuban restaurants within 20 minutes (that I know of - there are probably more). And then on the way to those I will pass at least 5 places that just call themselves Latin/South American. But I don't think I can think of any time I've seen a place that called itself just Puerto Rican.

I LOVE Cuban/latin/south american food though and I have been to eat at quite a few Puerto Rican friends' homes and I honestly couldn't tell you if there was a difference. Once you get into black beans and rice and fried plantains and meat stewed in a variety of tomato based gravies it's all pretty similar to me.

At any rate, go out and getcha some! It's all good.

UPDATE! I did a quick google for Puerto Rican food in my city and found that I have been eating at some all along. They either didn't specify or I never noticed them saying they were Puerto Rican but they came up in the search. One of them has these incredible breaded pork cutlets. Other than the side items and a few spices, it would be hard to tell the difference between that and a schnitzel from my favorite German place. That and boliche' are my two favorite latin meals. Throw in lots of yellow rice and black beans fried plantains and I am a happy happy guy.

also, to answer the OP: I would still like to try foie gras.

a very strong tasting meat, stronger than bison. Very good though; the burger toppings (onion, avocado, tomato, etc) were needed, in my mind, to tone down the flavour.

Often, they will only have it Saturday & Sunday (it's considered a hangover remedy).
Tripe is an ingredient.
.
Often Vietnamese restaurants will offer tripe as one of the meat options in their
ubiquitous and heavenly beef noodle soup pho (though I choose other options
and also avoid their meatballs).

If we're talking about meats, I've had a lot of the ones I am willing to try.

I've had snake, turtle, rabbit and so forth.
I've even had things I didn't want like snail, frog and if I am going to trust my father's word... Dog. Granted, I don't believe him.

Ethnicity:

I have no idea what I haven't tried in some form.

Oh! One thing that I know I don't want to try is Haggis.

was in Cali -- there is (or was a number of years ago) an Indian restaurant right by the water in Santa Barbara that served soft shell crab. It was delish and I'd have it again if I ever saw it anywhere. Here in the PNW we also have Dungeness.

that wasn't homemade. My ethnic background is Ukrainian, and while there are a few variations within my family, they are all excellent. I've never tasted anything that came close, in a restaurant.
