If you have any kind of weight problem..most of these ideas are worth looking at..
It is really worth the five minutes that it takes to link there and watch the show..especially the one about the "free food at restaurants"..

Just count calories and spread them out over at least three meals a day. It's really that simple.

I want to weigh 200 pounds and I don't feel like moving around a lot. I looked up how many calories it takes for me to weight 200 pounds and I eat that or less. It turns out to be 2150. Also, there is a minimum amount of calories most men should consume and that is 1500. So 1500-2150 calories a day and eventually I'll weigh 200 pounds without even really working hard.

Sorry, but that one IS a joke. Yeah, sure. The first thing someone who eats emotionally is going to think of when they're upset is to go chug a glass of water. Right. Whoever wrote that crap is obviously not someone who overeats under emotional stress. People who do so run to food because it makes them feel better. And, the thought of drinking water or chewing gum does not even enter one's mind when they are under emotional stress. And, speaking from experience, it doesn't matter how many times it has been suggested that you just go take a walk every time life kicks you in the gut. You go, without even thinking about it, to what you already know will make you feel better, and walking, chewing gum, and chugging a glass of water ain't it.

Except make me belch a lot. I often go for diet soda, which, contrary to the article, doesn't make me hungrier. I drink the stuff so that I don't eat. The carbonation fills me up. I'll drink flavored seltzer for the same reason. I also just like the bubbles.

You have to deal with it at some point if you'd like to lose weight. I don't know what it takes for other people, but chewing gum, going for a walk, and drinking a glass of water don't help for me, either.

I used to drink a twelve pack a week. That was my emotional crutch. I simply gave it up and it's been difficult, but that's how I'm dealing with it.

You can absolutely train yourself to reach for water instead - but an intermediate step might be to tell yourself you can have the ice cream but only if you chug a glass of water first.

If you aren't a fan of cold water, you could have a cup of herbal tea, which may have more of a comforting feel.

I think it's like the technique of giving up smoking gradually, with one of the steps being wait 15 minutes after a meal before lighting up, and then delaying that out further and further. So the thought process isn't "I can't smoke" or "I can't have the ice cream" - but it's more like "I will do that after I do x,y, or z."

The first benefit is that the water fills you up some so you don't do AS MUCH damage with the ice cream, and the second benefit which might be even more important is that you're retraining yourself to have a small amount of power over the food, by consciously decided you can delay it until you do something healthy first.

Like I said, good luck even thinking about doing something like that when you are emotionally upset. I don't know anyone who, while dealing such stresses is even going to THINK about picking up a glass of water or herbal tea (YUK!) before going to the ice cream. That is my point. THE THOUGHT WILL NOT EVEN ENTER YOUR HEAD WHEN YOU ARE UPSET. Unless you have someone there to put that suggestion into your stressed-out head, it ain't gonna happen.

Even if you don't adopt all the suggestions, you could still lose weight.

I can drive myself crazy not trusting what I eat and measuring my success at weight loss or maintenance by the number on the scale. I can go to the depths of crazy when I ignore my actually very sophisticated understanding of what and how much I should be eating.

Interestingly, I have few of those eating habits. My problem is the not-exercising habit. I'm sedentary as hell, but hope springs eternal.

Absolutely true, from my experience. I eat a lot more when I feel unrested. However, in the article they say "shoot for 6 or 7 hours". What about 8 hours of sleep? I need my 8 hours, thank you.

The closer I get to 8 hours, the more I feel at ease. There are some good tips in the 20, but not all are for everyone, and not all work all the time. I don't own a scale..I can tell how much I weigh approximately, by my belt size and how pants fit. Most of us, if we are honest know by how clothes fit, as to wheather or not we are gaining, losing or staying the same..
