One of our past dogs would howl when he heard the long, low siren from the fire department, not frequent because it's only used to call extra volunteer fire fighters for structure or brush fires. My husband would say the dog heard the big Kahuna and was howling back at him.

would run into the room , jump an the bed and howl whenever my brother would practice his flute.

But I've had to tilt my head and keep howling to catch a glimpse because my dogs who've howled often seem self-conscious about it, and would stop if you looked at them.
