(9,904 posts)IF I recall correctly, Snowe doesn't survive in the book,,,,

(56,828 posts)enter at your own risk... see below...
Jon Snow is either not dead, or else he'll be resurrected from death by (possibly) Melisandre. Or, else he will warg into Ghost and then come back when Mel revives his body. There was a lot of foreshadowing in the book (Davos enters a tavern called "The Belly of the Whale" that Jon will survive. The prologue chapter with Varamyr Sixskins warging into a wolf may foreshadow the fate of Jon Snow as well. But, the Belly of the Whale idea is that when Jon gave the speech in the Shield Hall, he was entering the belly of the whale - the description Martin gives almost makes it sound like the inside of a whale. If you know the biblical tale of Jonah, Jon is now going through the worst time inside the belly of the whale, in order to be "reborn" afterwards.
Of course, all that is speculation.

(2,812 posts)In the book his chapter ends with Snow becoming unconscious from the situation,
but that's it. No death described and so who knows what might happen.
All it would take is for a red priest to breathe some life into him, if he is actually dead, which I'm not sure he is.
Hell, look at Catelyn Stark!

(56,828 posts)A few things that give me some hope hes already gotten a decent amount written for Book 6, despite having a very busy schedule since ADWD was released almost 18 months ago. I believe hes also said that he plans to shut himself away from the world in 2013 and just write, write and write. So, I hope he can get the book out the following year in 2014.
Hes been a TV writer before, so knows what its like to write with a deadline in mind. If he can get Winds of Winter out right after Season 4, he could be okay in terms of writing, as AFFC, ADWD and TWOW could take another four or five seasons to get through, leaving Martin that many more years for A Dream of Spring.
My concern is that hes already in his mid 60s and he could develop health issues.
My other concern is that there are so many storylines and so much going on in the books that he may not be able to wrap it all up in just two more books. I think he could have told the Tyrion, Dany and Jon stories in fewer chapters in ADWD and advanced the storyline a bit more I mean, no trial for Cersei and only 2 chapters? Not one chapter of Sansa in the Vale? Did poor Quentyn Martell really need that many chapters?

(56,828 posts)It had been so long since A Storm of Swords came out in 2000, and I had been through a divorce, a remarriage, and became a father. I also changed jobs a few times as well. I had forgotten so much that I got frustrated at not remembering who was who and how they were related to each other that I gave up until I got firm information that A Dance with Dragons was coming out in 2011. I then started re-reading the entire series again, starting from book 1. Then, I was able to pick up A Feast for Crows, and then A Dance with Dragons and read them with all the characters still fresh in my head.
(And, then earlier this year, I re-read the entire series again so I could pick up on more R+L=J hints/clues, get more out of Dany's trip to the House of the Undying, etc.)

(8,217 posts)I mean, it takes me about a night or two to finish one of his books.
I'll do that again if and when he comes out with another book.
I only read all these books this year.
I started reading the books after Season 2 of Game of Thrones in HBO.
Feast of Crows ticked me off just because of his explanation, and then putting that in context knowing that his...
"Manuscript that became too big" got split, and what should have been a quick release, because it was a split book should have been only a year or two but in turn became 6 years... I just about threw that book out.

Also, (I'm Mr. Spoiler) the Tyrion-Sansa wedding is in Episode 8, which kind of surprised me. I believe the Purple Wedding will be next season, though it's not official.

And Diana Rigg as the Queen of Thorns? Epic.

I hadn't heard they cast Belwas, though.
Diana Rigg is a good casting choice.
