I think the staff here has separation anxiety when it comes to me. Once again,
they never can say goodbye, no no nono now.
.
The cardiologists still aren't sure of what they're seeing on my echocardiogram
(the baby-in-the-belly-type video). Yesterday, a trainer was teaching two people
who had never done them before, so they're not sure whether their techniques
may have goobered up the works or not.
.
They're talking cat scan and one of those internal echocardiograms, the Deep
Throat kind where they make me swallow this nasty ol' lube stuff and then
put me in lala-land and slide the imaging wand down my throat and take the
video of my heart from the INSIDE.
.
(HACK... HACK... I'D BETTER NOT HAVE TO PTOOEY ANYTHING AFTERWARD!!!!)
.
They haven't come back yet and it's 4 PM here -- chances are I might be
spending the night again.

You KNOW I'm hopin' for some of those celebrated DU bedbath vibes.

(46,731 posts)Is that some mantra? Or does it have some spiritual meaning like namaste?

(4,299 posts)Reciting the Compassion Buddha mantra just once completely purifies the four defeats of breaking the four root vows of self-liberation and the five uninterrupted negative karmas1

"It is very good to recite the mantra Om mani padme hum, but while you are doing it, you should
be thinking on its meaning, for the meaning of the six syllables is great and vast... The first, Om
symbolizes the practitioner's impure body, speech, and mind; it also symbolizes the pure exalted
body, speech, and mind of a Buddha"
"The path is indicated by the next four syllables. Mani, meaning jewel, symbolizes the factors of
method: (the) altruistic intention to become enlightened, compassion, and love."
.
"The two syllables, padme, meaning lotus, symbolize wisdom"
.
"Purity must be achieved by an indivisible unity of method and wisdom, symbolized by the final
syllable hum, which indicates indivisibility"
.
"Thus the six syllables, om mani padme hum, mean that in dependence on the practice of a path
which is an indivisible union of method and wisdom, you can transform your impure body, speech,
and mind into the pure exalted body, speech, and mind of a Buddha.

(23,272 posts)Its scawwy for all of us when you are so under-the-weather that you can't post, so we have to get updates from Kali or California Peggy.
And they don't give us ANY updates about your sponge baths!!
Stay strong and get well soon (well, maybe just after you get your next sponge bath!)

I'm here overnight. Tomorrow, a TEE -- a trans-esophageal echocardiogram. I call
it "deep-throatin' the periscope".
.
They're going to take a look at my heart from the inside of my body. I've had this
before... they had me swallow some mildly unpleasant stuff and then gave me the
GOOD stuff -- I stayed awake as long I could to enjoy it and then slept BLISSFULLY
through the whole thing. I don't remember the procedure at all and the aftereffects
were minimal.
.
The procedure team promised to call me, but you know how they are.
.
They never did.

Don't know if you heard but SalmenchantedEvening has left. The lounge needs you now more than ever. Glad the proceedure is relatively pain free.

Still in the hospital. They PLAN on coming in and doing the TEE procedure (see Post #12) about 10:30
AZ time (it's about 9:00 now). Last time, they took me to a quasi-surgical unit --- this time, since I
have the room to myself here, they're just going to do it in MY room.
This will allow them to make some truly INFORMED decisions about what they want to do. Barring
anything unforeseen, they will NOT be doing anything major today and I'll be going home sometime
during the day (yeah, how many times have I said THAT).
.
All-in-all, although I've got these pretty severe chronic illnesses, I FEEL pretty good and I am most
definitely in good hands here.
.
No, I'm NOT just referring to the tagteam bedbaths.
.
.
.
For that, I would have used the phrase "EXCELLENT hands".

More later... probably a good deal later -- and maybe from home.

(2,441 posts)& sorry that you're back on the old chain gang!
However, glad to see that you're in your usual lively spirits & may go home soon. Take care!
I'm in your neck of the woods starting tomorrow (well, in Tucson anyway), & send vibes, of course!

(23,350 posts)I watched it on the screen with the technician. She said the floppy bit of meat is a valve, and that it looks good. I assured her that I had rebuilt a few Chevy heads, and that floppy thing is no valve. Where's the valve stem, the valve spring, where's the camshaft that drives it all? It reinforced my belief in evolution, 'cause it sure aint no intelligent design.
Keep on ticking, mfm.

One of the tests they employ to check me is to have me squeeze their
fingers with both hands.
.
I cracked up a roomful of doctors and students by asking one guy, "My
nephew will no longer either squeeze or pull any of my fingers, so why
should I trust you."
